From: Israel P Subject: Genealogy #69 Date: Fri, 18 Sep 2009 12:17:45 +0300 Dear Cousins, The last few months have been very busy, so this will be rather brief. See why at http://pikholz.org/Devir13/BarMitzvah.html Other Pikholz descendants have been busy as well and we welcome the following newborns: Alexis Riley Pickholtz (IF1 & IF4) Tzofia Esther Herbst (IF2) Moshe Nosson Strickoff (IF2) Sheer Bohm (PITTSBURGH family) Gilad Yitzhak Farkas (BREZDOWICZ) Daniel Kisluk (ELIEZER & ORENSTEIN) Avraham Laub, Meir Simcha Rabchinsky, Devorah Hakak & Shlomo Zalman Gorodeski (these four first cousins are from IF2) A Yedidyah son whose first name I don't have yet (IF1 & IF2) Also the weddings of Erica Rosen (IF1 & IF4), Noa Laor (LAOR) and Kyle Mahoy (PITTSBURGH). Mazal tov to all these. Condolences to the family of Yehudah Dominitz (Pinchas/Rachel family) whose wife is a Rozdol-born Pickholz. (See http://tinyurl.com/mbortu ) Condolences to the family of Dita Moranos (IRENE family). We made contact less than a year ago and unfortunately I was not able to follow up sufficiently. Daughters of the RISS and DORA (Pickford branch) families wandered briefly in an out of contact, giving us a bit of new information, asking a few questions and then disappearing. Perhaps we shall yet hear from them again. We found a 1889 Hamburg passenger list for a Josef Pichocz or Pichoez who looks like Josef Pikholz who fathered the Pickford branch of the DORA family. The year of immigration matches the information in the 1900 census. The problem is that our Josef was born 1881 and this fellow was twenty-five years old - seventeen years older than ours. So for now we are not taking this passenger as ours. We found some other references to this Joseph in some 1907 issues of the Brooklyn Eagle, which seems to fill in some other missing information. It does prove that Joseph was alive in 1907, which has not been clear until now. I am specifically avoiding giving more detail here. Steve has been working on the Rachel Pikholz from Radomsyl, who married Solomon Brandt in New York in 1894. A few interesting possibilities have come up, but nothing we can get our teeth into. We have about a dozen family graves up on the website since last report - in Israel, in Youngstown Ohio and in Toronto Canada. I want to wish all of you and your families a good 5770 and may all of us be written and sealed in the Book of Life. Israel P.
