Date: Wed, 12 May 1999 07:02:43 +0200 Monday evening I spoke at length with Dalia Kaplan. Her father was a Pickholz and lived in Netanya. He was born in Bocec, over towards Skalat. She was able to tie in several Haifa area families, in addition to the information on her own children and grandchildren. (They used to live in Arad, so I know them slightly.) Dalia also says that they are related to the family which includes Yaffa Derori and Eliezer Senderovitz and to the family of Fischel (Pickholz) Ilan. Yesterday I met with Esther Solomon, the daughter of Yitzhak Pickholz, who was a Pickholz on both sides. Her brother Prof Benny Ilan joined us for part of the two and a half hours. Yitzhak was born in Rozdol, Benny in Vienna and Esther here. They filled in their own children and grandchildren (including two sets of twins and one set of triplets). They gave me some information on their father's family who were killed in the Holocaust, including some we had recorded, but didn't know that they were theirs. (In fact if Benny hadn't mentioned that he visited them in Rohatyn, I wouldn't have made the connection.) They have two cousins who escaped into Russia and were never heard from again. They gave us some of the children and grandchildren on the Fischer branch. (Cyla Fischer will probably join us at our mini- convention Monday, as she lives in the same retirement home.) Yitzhak's father Avraham was the brother of Raymond's grandfather Solomon and of Shemuel the ancestor of the South African and South American families. (some of the South American families, that is.) They have Avraham's father listed as Israel zvi Aryeh, while Raymond's grandfather's grave says Israel Zvi Yehuda, but those are largely interchangeable. We found Yitzhak's mother among the Rozdol birth records (1866) and her parents were just as expected. Her father was a Kohen (maybe named Lerner?) and she was Pikholz from the mother's side, as Izak from Flushing had said. We began making the connection with the Weiss family cousins and I shall follow that up with one who lives in Beer Sheva. Finally, we discussed the relationship with the family of Dov Berish. They think that it may have been via his wife, Golda, who was also Pickholz - but the jury will remain out on that for now. It would help if Golda's grandchildren would find out about her siblings... More as it happens. Israel P. -- End --
