Date: Mon, 15 Mar 1999 23:36:00 +0200 Lots of little things happening, so its time to catch up. at least partially. First I want to tell you about two non-Pickholz who have been a great help. One is Anita Citron of Flushing who has photographed half the Pickhol(t)z graves at Beth David, and will do the rest when the weather is good. She has also helped me with some Spanish - which I'll explain in a few minutes. Anita is to be found at , for those of you who want to give some positive reinforcement. The other big help has been Carole Feinberg, of Atlanta, who has made several trips to the federal census records of 1900 and 1920 (for NY, NJ and PA), the only years that are alphabetized. I had hoped that census research would give us lots of answers, but Carole has come up with all kinds of people we've not heard of, which has created lots of new questions. Carole is at . Some of the people that Carole has come up with: Dora Pickholtz Marenius, who lived in Elizabeth NJ in 1920. Her widowed mother (age 74) Annie/Chana (buried in MtZion) lived with them. Samuel Pickholtz, lived in Erie Pa, in 1920 (age 31), wife Eva. Samuel (39) and Fannie in Brooklyn in 1920, with kids Morrie, Adolf, Saul and Rebecca. Nathan (age 45) & Fannie, with Minnie, Clara, Yetta & Jennie, in 1920 in the Bronx. Selma Pickholtz, born Pgh in about 1903, lived in Phila orphanage in 1920. Leonard Pickholtz born about 1896, lived in a different Phila orphanage in 1920. John and Katie Pickholt (no z), b. 1889, lived in Phila in 1900. And apparently some new members of Steve's family as well. etc etc Anyone know any of these new people listed above?? We have also made real contact with some "new" families. Sergio is part of a large Pikholtz/Pikholc family in Argentina (see "Anita" above re translations). He is getting their information organized. Izak in Flushing & Florida is a Holocaust survivor from Stryj and a nephew of Hersch from Pitt Street NY. Izak has two daughters named Carol & Judy. He also has one niece here in Israel, who was in school with my twin sisters Carol & Judy years ago. Mace & Shawn in NJ are part of what looks like a small family, but we've only recently made contact. Ruth in NY is a granddaughter of a couple who are buried in Mt Zion and the daughter of the late Wm the dentist - another small family we've only begun to talk to. (Ruth has no email. Perhaps one of the NYers will volunteer to mail her these updates?) We have gotten some movement on connecting families to one another. Robert is definitely a third cousin to Dina Ostrover in Ramat Gan, and Dina has a Yiddish letter written by Robert's grandfather Boruch Bendit in about 1952. Eliezer Senderovitz (his mother is a Pickholz and a Holocaust survivor) can now connect to his second cousin Yaffa Derori, who lives about half an hour from him. Barbara Epstein has begun some sharing childhood reminiscences that include people from at least three other families and may help them connect with each other. The Excel file that I prepared as an overview now prints a four page chart. I'm only sending it to people who ask, because some are having problems with attachments. (Please ask - otherwise I don't bother updating it.) Rita sprung for all the Social Security applications we didn't have (deaths after 1962) and we now have parents names for them. That's enough for now. Let me mention that I will be offline from 25 March till after the Pesah holiday. My email provider deletes mail after the box fills up, so please don't send anything during that period. But I hope to check in with you again before that. Israel P. -- End --
